What is an EPC?
An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rates a property’s energy efficiency on a scale from A (highly efficient) to G (highly inefficient), and shows its potential rating after energy efficiency improvements are made.
As a landlord or homeowner, you are required by law to provide an Energy Performance Certificate to buyers or tenants if your property is newly built, for sale or for rent. This means it’s really important to have one!
All EPCs are valid for 10 years, unless any changes are made to the thermal elements of your property, in which case, you need an updated EPC.
What is involved in an EPC assessment?
To evaluate the energy efficiency of your property and generate an EPC. To do this, we will need to examine various features of your property. These include:
- Loft insulation
- Domestic boiler
- Hot water tank
All of these things can contribute to how energy efficient your property is, and often an improvement or upgrade to one can help boost your EPC rating. When you get your EPC, you’ll also be given advice on what practical steps you can take to improve your rating.
